Update Regarding COVID-19 And HAY End Of School Year

Recent Posts

Dear HCCY members, HAY parents, and friends, please take note of the following information:

I hope you all continue to take good care of yourselves.

During these difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of community is extremely important to us. As a community we continue to stay strong and support each other to the best of our ability. Our families and teachers remain our top priority at this time.

The information below is a follow up to my previous message regarding lunch program and tuition compensation.

As you are aware, the federal government announced that charitable organizations will be included in its Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy program. The program offers a 75-per-cent wage subsidy to eligible employers. As a not-for-profit we have applied for this subsidy and we expect to hear the outcome in the coming weeks.

The HCCY Board of Directors has held numerous meetings over the past few weeks. All Board members have children in attendance at our school.  As a Board, we have decided to do the right thing by supporting our member families with some financial relief, supporting our teachers with continued employment, while also holding true to a core value of our organization which is to promote and maintain Hellenic education and culture.  In order to ensure that we are supporting each other during this time of need, we will be moving forward with the following reimbursements without delay:

  • Families will receive a lunch program refund based on the meals that were not fulfilled.
  • Families will receive a $150 per student tuition refund.

In order to minimize the financial risk to our HCCY organization, we have decided to wrap up the Online learning on Saturday May 30th. Please join me in sending a big thank you to our teachers for stepping up and for executing our online learning program to the best of our ability during this time. We are learning from this experience and we will be better prepared to deal with unexpected interruptions to our usual education program in the future.

I thank you for your patience as we work together and support each other during these times.
Best Regards,

Helen A. Barbalias, MA
