Parent Appreciation Day – Saturday, March 2, 2019

HCCY Annual Karnavali – TOMORROW – March 2, 2019
LAST CHANCE – BOOK NOW – The Hellenic–Canadian Community of YorkRegion (HCCY) is pleased to announce we will be hosting our Annual Karnavali Dance at Bellagio Boutique Event Venue on Saturday, March 2, 2019. As always, we encourage all to dress up for your chance to win best costume prizes. This year’s costume theme will be Super Heros. Don’t miss your chance to attend this spectacular event by reserving your tickets today. Year after year tickets for this event sell quickly and the event is always unforgettable. Masqueraders young and old will dine and dance the night away. Featuring a three course dinner, open bar, live entertainment featuring our very own HAY student dance performers, a Levendia-X Hellenic Dance Group performance, music featuring DJ Kosta, and many valuable prizes to be won. Tickets are only $85 for Adults, and $40 for children (ages 12 and under). Proceeds from this fundraising event will support program enrichment for our Greek School, the Hellenic Academy of York. Notice for Students Performing at the Karnavali Dance
Simone Gavros, our HAY Dance Instructor would like to inform you of the following: All students performing at the Karnavali Dance, please ensure you attend Greek School this Saturday for the final dress rehearsal which will take place immediately following the lunch break. Reminder, for the dance presentations all performers (boys & girls) are to wear white long sleeve dress shirts, with black dress pants/skirts and black dress shoes.
NO CLASSES – March Break – Saturday, March 9th and 16th
Please note, there will be no classes held at the Hellenic Academy of York on Saturday March 9th and Saturday March 16th in recognition of the winter March Break for all schools. School will be closed on these dates. We wish everyone a safe and happy winter break!

Reminder to all, daylight saving time starts on Sunday, March 10, 2019. Time to spring forward and set your clocks 1 hour ahead at 2:00am on March 10th.
RBC Life Insurance Clinic – Saturday, March 23, 2019
Nick Kambanis, a Life & Living Benefits Advisor for RBC Insurance in Richmond Hill and Markham will be available the morning of Saturday, March 23rd to introduce himself, the services he provides, and to answer questions members may have pertaining to life insurance needs.
Greek Independence Day Parade – Sunday, March 24, 2019
The Hellenic Academy of York would like to participate once again in the Annual Greek Independence Day Parade hosted by the Greek Community ofToronto on the Danforth on Sunday March 24th. We ask that students and parents dress up in traditional attire and participate in the parade representing our school. The parade will run on Danforth Avenue from Jones to Broadview starting at 1:00pm. We will be meeting as a group on the Eastern Commerce Collegiate Institute’s soccer field at 12:30pm at 16 Phin Avenue, near Donlands & Danforth. Please remember to check the weather forecast and dress appropriately. We look forward to seeing you there. In an effort to increase participation from the school, the board is currently investigating options for a bus to shuttle students and families between the school and the parade location. Stay tuned for further details.
Jumping ahead to April, it is going to be a rather short month due to the Easter break, but it will be a busy month. We are planning the return of the Bike Helmet Safety Event at HAY on April 6th. A family friendly live comedy theatre event featuring actors directly from Greece will be presented in conjunction with the Pan-Messinian Association of Toronto, the Hellenic Canadian Community ofYork Region, and Signature Productions on April 11th. Reminder also that picture day at HAY will be on the April 13th. Stay tuned for more details to come.
